Our Strategy

The Mat-Su Salmon Partnership has a Strategic Action Plan that identifies long-term goals, strategies and voluntary actions that the Partnership, or anyone else can undertake to conserve salmon habitat. There are twelve areas of conservation strategies addressed,  plus three over-arching Mat-Su SAP 2013COVERscience strategies to increase our knowledge about the location and characteristics of salmon habitat in the Mat-Su: fish distribution and life cycle use, water quantity, and water quality.

The plan was first developed in 2008 following an 18 month long process involving many Partners and stakeholders, and was updated in 2013 to address changes in the Mat-Su Basin that could significantly alter the situation for salmon habitat.

The Partnership completed a second update to the Plan in 2019. It is an Addendum to the 2013 Plan, and contains the Partnership’s organizational priorities, and updated conservation objectives for the next five years. These updates are intended to ensure our efforts remain relevant and strategic, improve our overall effectiveness as an organization, and increase our ability to achieve our conservation goals.

As part of the most recent update process, the Partnership completed an accomplishments report to evaluate progress working toward the goals of the Strategic Action Plan. Find the Mat-Su Salmon Partnership 2013-2017 Accomplishments Report by clicking on the link.

The Steering Committee also solicited feedback from the Partnership to identify what should be the Partnership’s highest priorities in the coming years. Find Symposium and survey feedback at this link.

Join us April 21-22, 2025 at the BP Energy Center, Anchorage. The intent of the symposium is to support healthy fisheries, people and economies on the Kenai Peninsula and in the Mat-Su by better connecting people and organizations working on salmon watershed stewardship in the region, particularly Kenai and Mat-Su fish habitat partnerships.
